COOLING TOWERS
Besides deposits and corrosion concerns, the large fans on cooling towers constantly suck in airborne contaminants which must be regularly filtered from the system or otherwise physically removed. This includes anything in the air around the tower whether it is dust and dirt, leaves, cottonwood seeds, insects, etc. This debris can end up clogging the chiller and reduce the flow water through the cooling tower which in turn prevents proper cooling of the building or process equipment.
Cooling towers can provide ideal conditions for biological fouling and the growth of
pathogens such as Legionella, the bacterium responsible for Legionnaire’s disease.
